EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based approach that helps your brain safely process distressing memories and the beliefs and sensations that came with them. In our work together, we move gently and collaboratively, honouring your pace and your nervous system. The aim isn’t to erase your history, but to reduce the intensity of painful triggers so you can feel more grounded, present and connected.

How EMDR helps

  • Reduces the emotional charge of traumatic or disturbing memories

  • Softens body-based reactions (tension, startle response, shutdown)

  • Unhooks unhelpful beliefs (e.g., “I’m not safe,” “It was my fault”)

  • Builds capacity for calm, choice and connection

What a session can look like

  1. Stabilise & prepare — We start with safety, resourcing and consent. You’ll learn grounding and nervous-system tools so you have choice and control throughout.

  2. Target & reprocess — Using bilateral stimulation (often eye movements), we process selected memories or sensations bit by bit.

  3. Install calm & integrate — We reinforce adaptive beliefs and track changes in the body, so shifts hold beyond the session.

Is EMDR right for me?
EMDR can be helpful for trauma and PTSD, anxiety, grief, complex relationship patterns, and distress linked to specific events. If you’re uncertain, we can begin with a standard counselling session and decide together.
